Welcome to Admizion      #1 Your Gateway to Global Education – Apply, Study, Succeed!

If you’re appearing for NEET UG 2026 this Saturday, there’s one important update from the National Testing Agency (NTA) that you need to read before you walk into that exam centre.

On 29th April 2026, NTA released an official public notice regarding biometric verification exceptions for NEET UG 2026. Given that the exam is on 3rd May 2026, this advisory is relevant for every single candidate – not just those who expect a problem.

At Admizion, we work with NEET aspirants across Chandigarh, Punjab, and Haryana every year. When an official notice like this drops just four days before the exam, we make sure our students know exactly what it means and what they need to do.

Let’s break it down in simple language.

What Is Biometric Verification at NEET, and Why Does It Matter?

Before you enter the examination room on exam day, every NEET candidate must go through a biometric verification process. This happens after the initial frisking – it’s a mandatory step that NTA uses to verify candidate identity and prevent impersonation.

The biometric data is typically linked to your Aadhaar (UIDAI) records. In most cases, it takes a few seconds and you walk right in.

But what happens when it doesn’t work?

The NTA Advisory: What It Actually Says

The NTA’s public notice dated 29th April 2026 addresses a specific situation – what to do when biometric verification cannot be completed due to:

  • A hardware failure at the exam centre (device malfunction)
  • Poor quality of biometric data (for example, worn fingerprints, skin conditions, or other physical reasons)
  • Connectivity failure with UIDAI at the time of verification
  • A candidate’s physical inability to provide biometric data

In any of these situations, the NTA has clearly stated: the candidate will still be permitted to enter the examination room.

However, there is one condition – the candidate must submit a written undertaking at the exam centre. The format for this undertaking will be provided at the centre itself, so you don’t need to prepare or print anything in advance.

Important Timing Rule – Read This Carefully

This is the part that many students miss.

The NTA notice specifically states that candidates shall NOT be disturbed during the exam period from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM for the biometric process.

For PwD / PwBD candidates (Persons with Disabilities / Persons with Benchmark Disabilities), this window extends to 6:00 PM.

What this means practically: biometric verification needs to happen before the exam begins. If there’s a biometric issue, it will be resolved at the entry stage – you will not be pulled out of the exam midway to deal with it.

This is a student-friendly clarification and removes a significant source of anxiety.

What Should You Do on Exam Day?

Since the exam is on 3rd May, here’s how to approach this calmly:

Arrive early. NTA has always recommended reaching your exam centre well before the reporting time. With biometric verification now mandatory after frisking, the entry process takes a little longer. Don’t give yourself a tight window.

Don’t panic if biometric fails. If the device malfunctions or your fingerprint doesn’t register properly – stay calm. This is not disqualification. You will be asked to sign a written undertaking, and you will be allowed inside. Centre staff are aware of this procedure.

Carry all required documents. Your admit card and a valid photo ID are non-negotiable. Biometric is an additional layer of verification – the primary documents are still your first checkpoint.

PwD / PwBD students – make sure you are aware of your extended time allowance (up to 6:00 PM) and that the biometric exception window also covers you separately.

Why This Notice Matters More Than You Think

Some students read an advisory like this and assume it doesn’t apply to them. But here’s the thing – biometric failures can happen to anyone. Dry skin, minor cuts, rough hands from writing practice, humidity on exam day – any of these can affect fingerprint quality.

The fact that NTA has issued a formal advisory means they’ve encountered enough of these situations to warrant a public notice. It’s not rare.

Knowing this in advance means you won’t freeze at the gate if it happens to you. You know exactly what to do – ask for the undertaking form, fill it, and walk in.

One less thing to stress about on an already high-pressure day.
